Meet the Pets
Animals of many different types abound at our center. We have an assortment of animals that live in the classrooms. We have several furry pets that are “hands on” pets, they include a rabbit, guinea pigs and a pair of degus. These are pets that have been socialized extensively and are handled by the teachers frequently. The children are able to pet these animals and interact with them. We also have many “observation” pets including a set of hermit crabs, a bearded dragon, a turtle and several aquariums of fish.
We use the pets to teach the children about body parts, life cycles and the differences between species. We learn about what they eat, what their needs are and most importantly; how to treat living things with respect and care. We believe the skills the children practice with the pets transfer to their relationships with their friends creating a kind, caring environment.
